Why choose British Gas?

Expert CORGI engineers and a name you can trust

More people choose the maintenance and breakdown products of British Gas than any other cover because they are the UK’s largest boiler installer and a trusted name in the industry.  The market-leading benefits of HomeCare central heating cover include:

  • 8 out of 10 boiler breakdowns get same day service and if that’s not possible they aim to always be there at least by the next day
  • They have 6,900 highly trained ‘Gas Safe’ (CORGI) registered gas engineers
  • They’ve also got 500 highly skilled electrical engineers
  • Plus 1,000 Dyno-Rod plumbing and drains engineers
  • Their ‘Gas Safe (CORGI) engineers minimise disruption to your home – covering carpets, protecting work surfaces, and clearing up when they’re done
  • All their engineers carry an ID card to prove that they are genuine British Gas representatives
  • They provide full service records and documentation – useful for when you sell your home

Highly trained engineers

British Gas invest £30 million each year to ensure their engineers are the very best in the business. Their engineers train at one of 13 award-winning British Gas Engineering Academies and continue to receive ongoing training throughout their careers. British Gas also arrange regular safety seminars to keep them up to date with the latest safety standards and regulations.

These engineers are fully trained in customer service too. They make it a priority to minimise disruption to you and your home and to be polite, courteous and professional at all times.

Some HomeCare products include cover for your plumbing and drains and the British Gas-owned company, Dyno-Rod, deals with any plumbing and drainage problems in these instances.  Dyno-Rod is the UK’s most experienced drains repair company and all their engineers are similarly trained to the highest standard.Find out more about HomeCare

What’s Involved?

When you visit the British Gas website you can get an instant quotation based upon your postcode and a simple form filling exercise completes the ordering process.

Policy costs vary slightly according to postcode and, in particular, it is worth noting that those who live within the M25 pay higher premiums to cover the additional costs of repairs in Greater London.

British Gas do not tie you into a 12 month contract (as with some other other products) and if you choose to cancel the policy at any time there willl just be a cancellation charge to cover their costs.

Although British Gas is not the cheapest on the market, it is worth knowing that their annual boiler safety check is worth at least £60 per annum.

HomeCare Flexi 100 takes care of your boiler and controls:

  • Annual Service
  • Over 6,900 highly qualified and ‘Gas Safe’ (CORGI) registered engineers
  • 24/7 manned customer helpline
  • Unlimited call outsApply for HomeCare online today
  • Each completed repair for a fixed fee of £50† – so you won’t have to pay extra for parts and labour

What’s Our View?

starstarstarstar star

British Gas has an impressive range of 8 plans on offer with HomeCare 400 being the most expensive at around £27 per/month and HomeCare 100 Flexi the cheapest at £10 per/month. HomeCare Flexi differs from the full HomeCare product in that an excess of £50 per call out is charged in return for the reduced premiums.

In our opinion, the basic HomeCare 100 package provides adequate cover for your boiler and its controls and includes both unlimited call outs and an annual service. Although the Flexi 100 product is slightly cheaper, you would only need one call out per year to make the additional premium more than worthwhile.

The ‘unlimited call outs’ can be for any number of repairs and includes full parts and labour.  Perhaps more importantly for some, subject to an initial inspection from one of British Gas’ engineers Homecare 100 will cover your boiler no matter how old it is.
