Simple Ways Travellers Can Reduce CO2 Emmissions

Unless you are a committed homebody, you likely spend a portion of each day travelling somewhere, even if it is just to a local shop. Here are some ways that you can make every trip more environmentally friendly, and remember, the bigger the trip – the bigger the opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions.
- Ride a Bicycle. There’s no need to sell your car for good, but many people find that they can incorporate a bicycle into their lives and use it for short trips. Even if the bicycle is only used a few times a month, it means that there is one less car on the road during those occasions. Even better, bicycling is a great way to inspire others to get serious about their own CO2 emissions.
- Use Public Transportation. In most cities, public transportation is an excellent way to get from point A to point B. In fact, as cities experience more and more traffic congestion, alternative methods like the tube are often faster than driving. If you already own a car, you may choose to select a couple of specific destinations that are conveniently reached by public transit. Not only will your efforts reduce CO2 emissions, you will also encourage further development of the public transportation options in your area – the more popular they become, the more money will be invested in upgrading them.
- Carpool. A four-seater car with only one passenger is an insult to the concept of efficiency. It is also a big waste of money. With a little investigating, you will likely find that some of your colleagues are also commuting from your area or live along your route. By forming a carpool, you will reduce the number of vehicles on the road plus save money by sharing the cost of gas and parking.
- Purchase an energy efficient vehicle. Being environmentally friendly does not mean forgoing the convenience of a car, especially with energy efficient models such as electric, hybrid, and bio-diesel cars on the market.
Remember, it does not have to be difficult to be effective and other people are often more persuaded by what they see you do than by what you tell them. The changes that you make in your own life can help inspire others in a big way.
Becoming an environmentally friendly trendsetter is the best way to maximize your efforts to reduce CO2 emissions.
