If you want to buy a cheap gas boiler you should apply for the new boiler scrappage scheme. Unfortunately, if you have already done so you may have to wait a bit longer than expected.
It has recently been revealed that thousands of people will have to wait longer than anticipated for their vouchers. The scheme was officially launched about 4 weeks ago in the hope it would incentivise people to cut carbon emissions by replacing their existing unit and buy a new boiler, which is more energy efficient.
But you could say this delay is actually good news, at least for the environment. It seems the scheme has been so successful many are falling over themselves to apply for the vouchers so they can get their hands on cheap gas boilers.
The Energy Saving Trust, the managing organisation of the scheme, has openly admitted it is battling to keep up. It has already received around 40,000 applications and over 160,000 calls and with only 125,000 vouchers available the scheme looks like it will only last around 3 months.
However the delays experienced so far are not that extensive according to the Energy Saving Trust, which has said most people should only have to wait around 10-14 days to receive their vouchers. But some comments on various blogs and sites have suggested people are waiting much longer than this.
This is also not the only scheme available, which allows people to obtain cash towards a
new gas boiler. Another government backed scheme called Warm Front provides people over 60 with a voucher for £300. This is also experiencing high demand with a reported 6 month waiting list. It seems everyone is going
gas boiler mad at the moment.
