New Boiler Reviews

A big consideration when purchasing a new boiler is what size does it have to be and where will it be installed. They come in all different shapes and sizes and they also deliver heat and hot water differently which can have an impact. Combi boilers are great for small homes or flats; they are compact and heat water directly from the mains delivering heat and hot water almost immediately. They aren’t however great for large hot water requirements.

For that system or sealed system boilers are usually used. They are often bigger use an expansion tank and storage cylinder, which are installed in the loft or a big airing cupboard. System boilers are more suitable for homes that use a lot of hot water. Then you have wall or floor mounted, depending on which position is most convenient and on top that you have various weights and dimensions to consider.
If you haven’t already grab a tape measure and do a bit of reconnaissance work to establish what kind of heating system you currently have, where it is positioned and how big it is.
A pre-plumbing jig actually makes the installation process simpler and allows the system to be easily flushed protecting the boiler from any sediment. For on-going maintenance the jig also makes servicing easy too. So look out for models which have this feature because it could save time and money.

When you read our reviews you will see the word “output” manufacturers often create a range of boilers to meet various heat and hot water needs. The higher the output the more heat and hot water it can produce. If you are unsure there are plenty of good output calculators and SEDBUK (Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers in the UK) has one of their own. However, to give you an idea an average combination boiler with a 29kW output can deliver 12.5 litres/minute of hot water at 35°C.
The SEDBUK efficiency bands range from G which is below 70% efficiency to A which is above 90%. The higher the efficiency the less energy your boiler wastes, it’s as simple as that. The above information should give you a good overview of what you should be looking out for when buying a new boiler.

The above table compares the latest models and brands on the market in an easy to understand table. BUYability uses a variety of product features to rate new boilers such as, price, efficiency, installation and emissions which are all important factors to consider when choosing what’s right for your needs. Once you have seen a new boiler which fits your budget and overall specification you can go on to read our easy to understand jargon free review for more information.

Once again when reviewing new boilers there are several things you need to consider. The size of the boiler may not be suitable for your home. Always take measurements or consult a qualified Gas Safe engineer before buying. Some boilers are more efficient than others look at there power consumption and efficiency and compare units.

Prices shown represent the lowest (approximate) base unit price for each boiler obtained from various online retail sources inclusive of VAT but excluding installation. British Gas boilers are normally quoted individually inclusive of installation so they are marked £POA (Price On Application).
